UK unemployment total reaches 17-year high

Unemployment rose by 114,000 between June and August to 2,57 million,
a 17-year high.

600 people joined the dole queue last month in Kent and Medway.
Thanet being the worst hit with an extra 151 claimants. Canterbury, Ashford and Gravesham decrease slightly
Youth unemployment is close to 1 million. One in five of the 16-24 year olds out of work, an increase of 74,000.
