Coloured contact lenses can be bad for the eyes

by Lisa Mersie
Be careful with coloured contact lenses this Halloween. Even though they can make a Halloween costume even scarier, there are also some downsides. When they’re not used properly they will damage your eyes.

The U.S. Food and Drug administration warns everyone to not buy these contact lenses illegally over the counter. It is cheaper than buying them at an optician but maybe saving money when it comes to your eyes isn’t the best option.

The lenses themself are not even the problem. It’s mostly that the shops that sell them don’t give the right instructions. When the lenses aren’t used on a proper way, they can lead to corneal ulcers, corneal abrasion, vision impairment and even blindness. Things that would definitely ruin the Halloween mood.

An optician would be able to get the same contact lenses, but they would make sure that they are fitted correctly. They also do tests to make sure the eyes can handle the lenses. Gil, who has been an optician for thirty years now and who works for a big firm, tells more about the lenses.
